mjammie

Other places spotted to eat DELICIOUSLY: Surf n Turf, Piscadera (next to Hooks Hut), my mom's place.

why siesta?

Come to the island and walk around and do your business around noon, 1nish, don't drink much water and don't eat lunch yet. All your energy will be sucked out and you will function perfectly as a nice carpet in your bathroom.

Eating at 'Marche' (the market)
Eating really really good food, the local food, the fish is sooo good and you get a loh. 9 guilders for a meal, that's like 3 euro something.
It's where everybody will eat: tourists, locals, office people, artists anyone.

my penthouse

project Buena Vista

We are now heating up to the community art project Buena Vista. This is a neigborhood where i have lived myself. I hated it for the oil rafinary (how do i spell that?) that keeps on poluting our planet with every single second. I also hated the tick pest that was driving my dogs insane (for real) and sick. I loved it for it's location and the karate-period i had there. My time with Lady, Baggio & Sprinky. 3 special dogs i had, a very special dog team they were. After Lady died of oldness, the other dogs just quite and checked out soon after her, although they were not even sick. There i also discovered my love for unfinished buildings, no, that was already before that.
Drugaddicts rubbed us blind there, they stole everything that was not attached. Fortunatly my room was so messy that they had no idea what to take. Being sloppy has it's advantages, gna gna.
Now that i think of it: it had more bad stuff for me than good. But, life happened there, and i learned how to make the best of it. Now let's see what can come out of the project. I'm really looking forward to it.

In memoriam

Uncle Boyzy was my master cook uncle of Caribbean food! His rice was the best...he had a secret style. He knew how to make the best pork-chop and where to find the finest meat.
I remember my holidays on St.Maarten. As a little girl i would hide behind a wall on the veranda so if he would come from work at the casino, i would jump out and startle him. Every day. I would wait patiently in the burning sun, he whistles as if he doesnt know that i'm standing there, and than i would jump out and scare the be-jesus out of him. Of course he acted startled. Everyday. It was our game.

He would always talk and make you feel accepted, you are the niece and you are family. Just as my other 2 uncles that also died, they all 3 had that same sweetness and kindness towards me.

Also still when i called him from the Netherlands, we would have much to chat about and he enjoyed the chats.

Tio Boyzy, kumindamentu pa Mamai i Dada i bo otro rumanan!

Deze week allerlei dingen zitten regelen: mijn bankpasje hier laten vernieuwen, mijn beltegoed hier re-activeren, strandspullen kopen, boodschappen doen, familie bezoeken etc.

Boe :(

Green building is where i am working: Instituto Buena Bista!

Flight was very comfortable, i upgraded my seat to comfort class, which was good cause i was actually very tired and wanted to sleep the entire flight. Because of tiredness i was also very emotional. Tears sprang into my eyes when i saw the caribbean sea from my window. We landed first on Aruba, it looked very dry and restless, with dead american girls on the bottom of the sea, but that was just my impression. When i walked in the corridor of the airport in Curacao the warm wind gave me a welcoming hug, i heard boys chatting in Papiamentu, i was back! The lady that has been sending me all those nice emails, was standing with my name in her hands waiting for me. My parents picked me up and i went home!

It's wednesday, i'm at the IBB (Instituto Buena Bista) and getting known with everything. It's in city centre Punda. (see pics)
Yesterday i got my appartment. It's a shabby retro attic appartment, but for me it's perfect. It has a beach appartment feel to it, because it's all wood and windows allround. And it's not far from my parents.
I'm driving a grand cherokee Jeep, very powerfull, and fortunatly automatic. I don't care so much about cars, the older and shabbier, the better for me.
The kids i'll be teaching are between 15 and 25 years old, and they are a good mix of people, typical Curacao, from all different backgrounds. They all wear the uniforms of the highschool they go to, they come after school. I'm glad i'm before the uniform period. We did good in high school to always have been striking against uniforms, hehe.

Anyways, i'm need to do some groceries and such, i'll update you later about my appartment :) I wish u were here!!
